I was approached to design the packaging artwork for a new brand called NOU (Next of Us) that aims to change the textured hair game. My hair has always been a symbol of my background and the multiple cultures that came together to create me. As I designed the artwork, I wanted to represent the magic and range of textured hair across the BIPOC community by embracing all of our kinks, curls, and coils.
GETTING IN THE MOOD
Next of Us is truly a brand for the next generation of free-spirits that use their hair to express themselves. I knew it had to be fun and appealing to all genders, while also standing out on a crowded Walmart shelf. The mood board is vibrant, punchy, expressive, youthful, and focuses on interesting typography to capture the spirit of the brand.
THE PROCESS
I provided the initial exploration and ideation for the brand based on the kinks, curls, and coils of textured hair that the brand was able to build and expand on.
